The Central Coast hosts a variety of holiday events that might be described as “quaint” compared with the bustle of our fast-paced society. Indeed, “back in time,” “heartfelt,” “genuine” and “joyful” are some of the ways we hear out-of-towners enthusiastically describe San Luis Obispo County’s holiday events. Here are some favorites to consider when visiting the region.

Don’t miss it!
Select Dates Now through December 22: Christmas at the Margarita Ranch – Santa Margarita
The historic Santa Margarita Ranch will once again host an extravaganza of steam trains, festive lights, sights, food and song as the second annual “Christmas at the Ranch” invites one and all to launch the holiday season amid the warmth of western hospitality. “Christmas at the Ranch” takes place on nine weekend afternoon/evenings from November 29 through December 22, 2024. All attendees enter the event on one of two authentic steam engine locomotives, one with open-air cars and one that pulls three train cars used in the first years that Disneyland opened its doors.
The nearly two-mile train ride treats guests to illuminated festive sights before stopping at Santa’s Village. Here, riders disembark and may enjoy carolers; a visit with Santa; a magic show; dinner and snack food trucks; face painting; games such as cornhole and roping; fire-roasted s’mores; pony rides; a “letters to Santa” station; and holiday coffees and craft cocktails for the adults. New this year is the Christmas Marketplace, which features regionally made artisanal jewelry, leather goods, candles and much more.
December 14: Vine Street Victorian Christmas Showcase – Paso Robles
Paso Robles’ famed Vine Street becomes electric as it closes to auto traffic and welcomes thousands to the ultimate open house. Individual homes and offices come alive with song, snacks, skits, dancers, and, of course, illuminated décor.
